Team WEP Testimonials
Linda Ohman, Poland - I live in Poland and had been training to run the Warsaw half marathon, at the end of March, for a couple of months. When I found out about FirstGiving.com that lets you register an event and collect sponsorships for a favorite charity from friends and family. I immediately thought of WEP! So I set up the website and sent out a notice to friends and family - and off course fellow runners! I also posted a link to the website in my Facebook status update. People responded and in the end I raised $275 for WEP. Although it might not seem like a lot, it’s more than half of what WEP needs to support one girl’s college education as well as her participation in WEP’s program. It was a definite bonus that by running I could also raise money for the many great young women whom WEP supports.
Rebecca Hoffman, New York -
Update: Rebecca Hoffman ran the Suntrust Marathon in Washington DC on March 20th and set a goal of $250 to raise funds for WEP! She told her friends that she “was inspired by the spirit of [WEP] students and their goals to succeed in college and careers.” Thank you Rebecca!
In 2008, Rebecca said: Zog Sports is a casual sports league geared towards young professionals in New York City. A portion of every player’s fees in the league goes to a charity chosen by the team which they are a part of. Being a part of a spring outdoor soccer league this season, I suggested that it would be great to make our charity be the Women’s Education Project. The team all agreed that it would be a great cause to support. We didn’t make it to the finals this year-but it was a fun way to raise money for WEP!
Natalie Rose, New York - Running for Team WEP was awesome. It gave me a little more incentive to push harder those last couple of miles!
